Thanks to Thomas Edison, Americans can travel back in time and experience cultures of their past by simply watching a movie. Most Americans only go to cinemas to see present day films, but what if old movies were featured every once and a while? Everyone can learn something from an old movie, it is the matter of taking time to do so that is the hard part.
Millions of Americans journey to the movie theater every weekend. Whether they are going to see a cute comedy, dangerous thriller, or tear jerking drama, people will always pay for a cheap ticket to entertainment. But what if one day a week the theaters played an old classic? American movies portray innovating messages. Old movies can teach generations life styles, social norms and values that have been forgotten. In the last century respect was a big part of society, and now respect dwindles as the years move forward. Instead of only featuring gang bangers with harsh words in movies, what if we balanced it out with an old classic encouraging respect. Maybe then people will be able to understand that gangsters are not the only people to look up too.
Movies bring people together. All age groups can find entertainment in movies. When grandparents watch movies that were popular during their childhood, with their grandchildren it creates a bond between generations. Black and white movies may be the most boring thing on earth, but if you tune out the fact that it is black and white and focus on the content one may discover something they never thought they would.
My father would always make me watch old movies with him. At first I never paid attention and would dread when he picked the movie. However, when I reached high school I began to appreciate the content of old movies. I fell in love with film from the past; I enjoyed comparing and contrasting clothing, hairstyles and lingo. It was strange to find valuable hidden messages films had to offer back then, where films today rarely convey good messages or any message at all. Taking time to indulge in an old classic is truly worth doing. The movies help you stay level headed and keep old American values intact.
